Hello, and welcome to my blog. I'm 30, and as you may have guessed from my blog's title, I'm working in Italy. Genova to be precise. I've been here since June 2008 and don't know when I'm going back to Scotland, if ever. I went to America a couple of years ago and wrote a lot of waffle. Update

Hello everybody.

I regret to tell you today that I greet you considerably more gloomily than my previous gay (but not in that way) posts. So, for those of you looking for a laugh or in need to be cheered up, elsewhere is where you should turn your attention. Sorry.

N.B. I'm not convinced that that opening paragraph was particularly correctly for an English teacher, but can't really be bothered to think too much about it. More apologies if this crass slothfulness appals/sickens/disappoints/dismays/another-word-with-similar-meaning's you.

My general malaise is based upon the dawning realisation that I don't really have many people over here. Y'see, got dumped yesterday (not that we were very serious, but essentially the same thing no matter how it's dressed up, in my opinion). So last night I was a bit miserable, only to wake up this morning to another day of utter merde (excuse the French) weather. The weather changes its mind more often than something which changes its mind very regularly. It doesn't have the heady charm of the Scottish 'four seasons in a day', and instead changes for a full day at a time from nice and sunny to hosing down rain, wind and general cold. I'm sure I've said it before, but if this blog is to eventually become a book I'm going to have to pad it out somehow, so I'll say it again: to call Italy the Land of the Sun is grossly mis-selling the place. It'd be like calling Glasgow the city of witty, urbane pub chat. Anyone who disagrees is a charlatan, a fraud, and probably working for the Italian tourist board. 'Nuff said, case closed.

So yeah, back to me. I kind of understand where she was coming from, but I'm still not convinced there was any necessity in calling things off just now. I may be not privy to all of the information, I don't know, but it seems like a shame. Also, being purely selfish, I now have even fewer friends here that I can go out with. It's getting perilously close to being a singular noun rather than plural. This I'm not too thrilled about. It's been pointed out to me that I've maybe not over exerted myself in garnering new amici, but most people here have someone, or an extended group of people, or only speak Italian. I don't, and to try and gate crash other people's lives isn't my style. I'm the quiet guy that'll sit and smile, drink, and occasionally say something breath-takingly succinct. I'm no instigator, intrepid explorer or anything as exciting. Reading this back, I sound pretty sorry for myself and self indulgent, but to be honest, that's how I'm feeling just now, and it is my blog. Hopefully things will pick up.........

On a lighter note, I'm going to the footy tomorrow to see the Mighty Genoa crush the foolish backward folks of Catania. Last week I stumbled on a bar that was showing the away game against Lecce, and in the absence of Seria A's Capocannoniere (top scorer), Diego Milito, the lads done good and won 2-0. Il Grifone are now in 4th place, Champions Leageu territory! In particular, Jankovic's goal was pretty special. Don't believe me? Ch-ch-check it out:

I went to see a room in a flat last night as my quest for a new place continues. Now this is even more important I think than it was before. The flat was pretty nice, and the girl who lived there seemed pretty sound. I've got a couple of weeks to wait on her giving me an answer, but fingers crossed it comes off.

As a side note, I received a parcel sent over by my folks on the 21st January, a mere 16 days after it was posted, smashing the Italian postal service's record in a Usain Bolt fashion. Seriously, guys, get a grip. My parcel would have been quicker if everyone here concentrated and prayed for God to magic it over.

Apart from that everyone, not a lot to report I don't think..........hmmm........ no.
Look after yourselves and each other,

Ciao
